Jay Smooth says everything I've ever wanted to say about why discussions of race/racial politics matter (even in fandom) and everything I've wanted to say about why, if I and others are talking about what you said, it's a diversionary tactic to start talking about who you (or your friends) are, and he says it much better than I could. Yes, it's a primer on strategies for how to tell people they sound racist, but I still think it's really important to illustrate the idea that yes, there is a difference between the statement, "that thing you said sounds racist" (which is almost always how conversations about race/racism start in fandom) and the statement, "you are a racist" (which tends to only come up once people actually start acting like racists instead of listening to what they're being told with regard to why something they said might be racially problematic).

I was going to talk about The Fashion Show, Glee and So You Think You Can Dance, but this is already tl;dr, so that’ll have to keep for another post on another day.

Warning: I really didn’t like this episode. Proceed behind the cut-tag at your own risk.

First:
ingridmatthews, Alessandro Juliani guest-stars in this week's SV episode, playing Dr. Emil Hamilton. He's only in two scenes, but he looks great and, more importantly, his character comes across as eminently sensible.

I know I owe comments and I’ll get to them this weekend, but I wanted to jot down my initial thoughts on Prey, the sixth episode of SV S8, before reading other people’s reviews. Be forewarned: I didn’t much care for this episode, so if you did, you might want to move along.
